Rob Heisler - Nidan
Rob Heisler started training with Calgary Gojukai in 1991. It was an activity that he could participate in with his children, but soon grew to be an integral part of his life. He has had the opportunity to train with Saiko Shihan Goshi Yamaguchi on two occasions in Canada as well as on two trips to Japan, including at the Gojukai 50th anniversary seminar. Rob received his Shodan from Yamaguchi Shihan at the 1999 IKGA Canada Annual Camp in Edmonton, Alberta Canada, and then in July 2003 he achieved the rank of Nidan.
Rob is a professional engineer and works in the oil and gas industry. Rob is the eldest member of the Ranchlands Club and although he does not compete at tournaments he enjoys preparing other club competitors to perform at their best for competition and gradings. Rob has played many team sports over the years and at this stage in his development enjoys the stretching, toning and meditative aspects that Gojukai provides.
As a senior member of Calgary Gojukai, Rob continues to set a great example for all members, junior and senior. Rob helps to keep the bar set high enough that everyone is challenged in their training at all levels.
Recently Rob has become an active referee for Karate Alberta competitions. This new facet to Karate adds another layer to an already complex sport, hobby and lifestyle.
